What is Idiang?

Idiang- is a natural fortress (rock formation) where the Ivatans climb to defend themselves from invading neighboring groups as well as foreigners. Idiang stands high as two story building.

Pre-hispanic Ivatans were compose of different tribes and used to have teritorial wars so they choose to settle on higher grounds near the IDIANGS. These tribes are compose of three ranks, the highest rank is the mangpus (chieftain), second rank are the Mapolons, and they have these UMIDIANG who are the warriors or the frontliners during wars.

The county's northernmost and smallest province, Batanes is among the most sought-after tourism frontier destinations located at the confluence of the West Philippine sea and Pacific Ocean.

Dubbed as "nature's playground", the archipelago province has been declared by the government as a protected landscape and seascape because of its rare flora and fauna, undulating terrain, diverse marine life, limestone cliffs, and panoramic sceneries. It boasts of streches of white and cream colored sandy beaches and clean water.

Composed of ten tiny islands, of these, only three are inhabited (Batan, Itbayat and Sabtang) while the islets of Dinem, Siayan, Ditarem, Misanga, Mavudis, Dequey, and Vuhus are all uninhabited.

The provincial capital town, Basco is the gateway and hub of commerce and transport of the province with the presence of the airport which flies to Manila and Tuguegarao city, Cagayan. From here, tourists can go around the other towns in Batan Island.

Batanes is nearer to Taiwan, which is just 190 km north, than mainland Luzon which is 280 km away from Aparri, the northernmost tip.
